NEW Election Information - See below

Hi everyone!  Thank you for visiting.  See the bottom of this page for a special recipe.

It is truly a pleasure to work for Westland residents in the Michigan State House of Representatives.  Thank you for your continued support!

We purchased an Amphicar a couple of years ago!
It's a 1967 model, and it's very nice.

Tell the truth: how many cars have YOU seen in the water?

NEW Election Information - See below

As the Michigan State Representative for the 18th District (Westland), it is an honor and privilege to serve.  I have received the trust of voters for more than 14 years and have been elected five times.  I am truly grateful.

Each of my successful elections have been by a convincing margin of victory, and I appreciate your vote of confidence.

I am a candidate for re-election this year, however, I learned on May 15th that I am unopposed.  I will not have an opponent on the ballot during the 2008 election cycle!

Thank you to the Westland community for your continued support of the work I'm doing on our collective behalf.  I still plan to work hard through the election season to assist our community, its residents and businesses, and our state.  What I won't be doing is asking residents to post my lawn signs!

Since we still have a number of volunteer efforts available, please contact me if you're interested in helping my campaign in any way.  Remember, I still need your vote on November 4, 2008.

Here are some of the things I enjoy:

* My family - including my wife Cheryl, our two sons Rick and Jeff, and our Cocker Spaniel "Libby" - and doing things with them.

* We recently purchased a house on the lake!  We're looking forward to years of fun on the water and spending time there with family, friends and our new neighbors.  For the past 24 years we also enjoyed trips to the cabin up North, but it's safe to say we prefer the water over the woods at this point in our lives.  The cabin has been sold and we have fond memories of our times there.

* It's a boat, it's a car, no, it's...both! After searching for about six years, we finally found a 1967 Amphicar. These unusual cars are also unusual boats. Maximum speed is 70 MPH on land or 7 knots in the water. A person who purchased his Amphicar brand new noticed our website and contacted us. We completed the purchase five months later.

We're looking to purchase another Amphicar.  If you know of one, please contact us ASAP.

We had it in the water several times and it was a blast. Tell the truth: how many cars have you seen in the lake? Everyone enjoyed that vehicle!

This car is very nice and was a great find. We've been members of the International Amphicar Club for about seven years. Check out their website: www.Amphicar.com

* Law enforcement, government and politics. People say that once it's in your blood it never goes away. I'm proud to serve within a local police department and I am now in my 20th year of service. As of May 2008, I have about 6914 hours in a patrol vehicle.

Here's the great recipe:

Cheryl LeBlanc's

 “Taffy Apple Salad”

List of Ingredients:

4 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped into ½" squares

¼ cup sugar

1 tablespoon flour

1 egg – beaten

8 ounces (canned) crushed pineapple – drain and save the juice

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

8 ounces Cool Whip

1 cup salted cocktail peanuts, crushed

Recipe:

Combine flour, sugar, beaten egg, vinegar and pineapple juice in medium saucepan and heat until thick.  Allow to cool for 10 minutes.

Fold chopped apple pieces into saucepan mixture and transfer to a large bowl.  Add pineapple, Cool Whip and ½ of the chopped peanuts.  Mix thoroughly.

Sprinkle remaining peanuts on top.  Serve chilled.

Makes about 8 moderate servings.  All ingredients can be doubled for a double batch.

This is a great dish with a meal or as a casual dessert.  Keep this recipe handy, as all of your guests will ask for it.
